These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Splitoon, including the mobile apps, API, and website at splitoon.app. By creating an account or using Splitoon, you agree to these Terms.

1. What Splitoon is
Splitoon is a tool for recording shared expenses, balances, and settle-ups between people. Splitoon does not move money, process card payments, hold balances of funds, or act as a bank, payment processor, or money transmitter. Any real-world payment happens outside Splitoon (cash, bank transfer, payment apps, etc.). Entries in Splitoon are records only.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) and able to form a binding contract. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide.
3. Accounts
- Keep your password confidential and your email up to date.
- You are responsible for activity under your account unless you notify us of unauthorized access promptly.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or pose a security risk.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Splitoon for unlawful, fraudulent, or harassing purposes
- Attempt to access others' data without authorization, probe, or disrupt the service
- Reverse engineer the service except where permitted by law
- Upload malware or content you do not have rights to share
- Misrepresent settle-ups or financial records to defraud others
5. Your content
You retain ownership of expense descriptions, receipts, and other content you submit. You grant us a limited license to host, sync, and display that content as needed to operate Splitoon for you and your group members. You represent that you have the rights to share what you upload.
6. Groups and invites
When you invite someone or join a group, other members can see your display name and shared expense activity in that group. You are responsible for who you invite and for resolving disputes with other users offline — Splitoon is not a party to your personal arrangements.
7. No financial advice or guarantees
Balances are calculated from the data users enter. We do not guarantee that recorded amounts match any real-world payment. You are solely responsible for verifying amounts before settling with others.
8. Service availability
We aim for reliable uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Features may change. We may update the app and require a minimum version for security.
9. Fees
Splitoon is currently offered without a subscription fee for core features. We may introduce paid plans later; if we do, we will communicate pricing clearly before charging.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy describes how we handle personal data and is part of using Splitoon.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
Splitoon is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Splitoon and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to Splitoon is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for Splitoon in the 12 months before the claim or (b) USD $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases our liability is limited to the maximum permitted by law.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Splitoon from claims arising out of your misuse of the service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
14. Termination
You may delete your account at any time in the app or via account deletion. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms. Sections that by nature should survive (including disclaimer, limitation of liability, and indemnity) will survive termination.
15. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance. If you disagree, stop using Splitoon and delete your account.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the operator's primary place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country apply.
